STEM Exhibition

Presentations continue this week, while conclusions for YS students are due. Students will have to submit a compiled report with all the components of the science research paper, as well as have a board with its components assembled neatly. They will present their findings to their peers during the next few classes, and then to the judges at the STEM Exhibition.

Any student in group A (YS) or B (YS) that present on 11/20 or 11/21 will earn an extra 10 points to their overall grade.

STEM Exhibition

Please buy your boards and any items needed to display your work now. We are approaching the Hawthorne School STEM Exhibition, and all reports and boards must be done and presentable.

Things you should be working on now:

1. Conclusions

2. Yellowstone students are completing their charts and graphs, to move on to conclusions

3. Edit, compile and format report in order with all required pages

3. Assemble boards and practice presentations

4. Entire report is due and class presentations begin week of October 28.

5. The school science fair is Friday, November 15, between 1:45-3:45 pm. Outside judges and visitors will be viewing the students' work.

STEM Exhibition

Students are continuing to work at various parts of the science project. Students in both groups A and B should have their data collected or collecting data to be displayed in charts and the appropriate graphs. Students that went on the second Yellowstone trip should have a final plan for their materials and procedures. They may also begin testing so they can submit their data in a couple of weeks.

Any student that submitted an unsatisfactory assignment is asked to correct errors, and continue to meet new deadlines.

During the next few weeks, students are working at various parts of the science project. Students in both groups A and B should be drafting the list of materials and write out the step-by-step procedures. Students may also begin testing. By now, all students should have a timeline in place for when they should conduct their tests, pick up necessary supplies and make the proper communications. Students that went on the second Yellowstone trip should have their research done and starting the next step, hypothesis.

Students in group B (Streit) will submit their research Monday and join group A in working on a hypothesis that answers the investigative question supported by relevant researched information. Please use the student samples attached.

The amount of research varies, as it is dependent on the investigative question. Students should be working on the science fair project at home, in addition to the classroom.

STEM Exhibition

We are beginning the school year with a refresher on the growth mindset, so we can tackle the obstacles we will face during our science fair projects with the right attitude and actions. Then, we will break down all the parts of the science fair projects. This week, we will focus on creating three investigative questions and corresponding purposes with real-life applications. We will find inspiration with previous student samples, thinking about our everyday challenges, and searches online.
