2nd Grade Summer Reading Program

Miss Nelson is Missing

June 2011

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to 2nd Grade! We are glad that you are a part of our class. We will be sharing a great year together.

This summer please spend time reading Miss Nelson is Missing. You should read the book more than once. Read it many times with your parents, by yourself and out loud to another person. Read carefully to learn about the students of room 207 and their teachers (Miss Nelson and Miss Swamp) at Horace B. Smedley Elementary School.

Once you have read the book you have two assignments to complete for the first day of school:

1.   Find some old clothing pieces and accessories (jewelry, purse, etc) and create a new disguise for Miss Nelson. Either take a photo and paste it on the paper that is attached or draw your new disguise on the paper.  Then on the paper, write at least two sentences about your disguise.

2.   Pretend you are a student in Room 207. Write a letter to Miss Nelson to persuade her to return to your class. Persuade means to convince, influence, and sway. Use the paper that is attached or write your letter on a card or piece of stationary.

Please keep your projects and book in a safe place this summer. Bring Miss Nelson is Missing and your two projects to the first day of second grade! Both the book and projects are part of our first week of activities. In addition, this project will be the first graded assignment of the school year.

Have a wonderful summer and read lots!

Mrs. Elsebaie and Ms. Easley
