Dear Hawthorne Parents and Teachers,
As the 2009-2010 school year begins, the PTA has been planning for what promises to be a wonderful year. We hope that you will find that our activities supplement the wonderful education our children receive at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy. Take a look at the calendar on the school website (www.hawthorneacad.org) and note the wide array of PTA-sponsored events.
PTA fundraising efforts are always evident throughout the school. This year PTA funds (raised in 2008-2009) will provide for:
- Licensing of Study Island
- Stretch ‘N Grow science and physical education program
- Expanded classroom libraries
- Materials and Professional development for the Illinois Writing Project
- LCD Projectors and Laptops
- Classroom Area Rugs for the Primary Grades
- Listening Centers for the Primary Classrooms
- Ongoing Staff Development for Curriculum Mapping
PTA funds also support the art program at Hawthorne, including the popular Arts Partnership and Picture Person. Additionally, we cover ongoing expenses such as computer office supplies and teacher classroom stipends.
All of these instructional resources and enhancements to the classroom are made possible because of the collective efforts of a dedicated Hawthorne community. Our families continue to provide the PTA with their gifts of time, talent and financial support. The Hawthorne students are the beneficiaries of this generosity, and we are forever grateful.
You will find your PTA Membership Form in your Back-to-School packet. We encourage everyone to be a member this year! We need your volunteer support and your ideas as we begin a new academic year. At Curriculum Night stop by the PTA Membership table and volunteer to help.
