Dear Hawthorne Parents, Teachers and Staff:
In the ever-changing climate of CPS funding, Hawthorne has braced itself to face the challenges of “keeping Hawthorne whole”. With the amazing fundraising and commitment of the Hawthorne community, this continues to remain true. Due to our successful fundraising efforts of last year, we were able to keep several positions that CPS had eliminated. PTA monies have funded several positions that provide instructional classroom learning and overall support that impact everyday learning. This is a tremendous accomplishment and could not have been done without the generosity and hard work of the entire Hawthorne community.
Below is a list of additional school needs that will be funded by the PTA this year with money raised in 2011-2012:
- Licensing of Study Island and the HSA website
- Curriculum Mapping Software
- Ongoing Staff Development for Curriculum Mapping
- Social and Emotional Learning Speaker Series
Hawthorne’s immediate future is very bright. We do recognize that there may be some unforeseeable challenges facing the Hawthorne Community over the next year. However, we will continue to focus on what we can impact directly with an emphasis on preserving our teacher and administrative staff positions. We will be soliciting the help and support of our parents, teachers, staff, friends and business community to help us achieve this goal.
So, we will continue to fundraise over the next 9 months. Please remember that we have worked on creating a year long fundraising menu and you should choose to support what appeals to you. Some of you may want to purchase gift-wrapping while others may wish to donate directly to school. Please understand that there is no pressure to support every fundraising initiative. We are grateful for the continued support from each family that can be seen in gifts of time, talent and financial support.
You will find your PTA membership form on-line and through the PTA Back-to-School email blast. We encourage everyone to be a member this year! We need your volunteer support and your ideas as we begin a new academic year.
With many thanks,
Kristin Pillsbury PTA President
