Dear Hawthorne Parents:
Believe it or not, it's time for the kids to start to gear up for the 2007-2008 school year. The PTA is also "gearing up" by planning many events to supplement the outstanding educational experiences our children receive at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy. Notice the "oldies, but goodies", such as the Fall Adult Party, the Sock and Mitten Drive, and the Parents' Speaker Series. Community service projects continue to be sprinkled in throughout the year. And in the spirit of continuous evolution, some of the events, such as the Spring Fundraiser, will explore new ways of fundraising.
Although summer is not yet over, the impact of PTA's fundraising is already evidenced throughout the building. This year the PTA purchased:
- Materials for a new Writing Program for K-2
- Supplemental Math books for the upper grades
- New lockers for the second floor
- An 8 foot climbing wall for the gymnasium
- Classroom bulletin boards
- Enhanced video conferencing equipment
- Refurbished Science Lab abd Equipment
PTA funds also support the art programs at Hawthorne and the after-school programs. And this is all in addition to the ongoing expenses such as computer office supplies and copier rental fees.
I encourage each of you to "gear up" for the school year as well. When you attend Curriculum Night on either September 18th or 19th, stop by the PTA Membership booth. Sign up as a member and put your name down as a volunteer. There are a myriad of opportunities!
